The Two Prophets
( lesson six )

In review of what we have seen in the previous lessons we know that there will be a period of seven years marked by the signing of a "covenant" and half way through the "covenant" (or pact) it is broken giving birth to the Great Tribulation, a time of world-wide persecution for Christians.

What we will now look at is the first half of the seven year period, and more specifically, at two special prophets that will stand before the whole world speaking the truth of God. We will also see how that it is the killing of these two prophets that ignites the breaking of the religious freedom covenant and gives birth to the last three and a half years of Anti-Christ reign.

"Then answered I,and said unto him,What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said unto him,What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? And he answered me and said,Knowest thou not what these be?And I said,No,my lord. Then said he,these are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth ." (Zech 4:11-14)

"And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth." (Rev 11:3-4)

The revelation given to John in chapter 11 of Revelations is in accordance with the former prophecy given many many years before to the prophet Zechariah, showing continuity in God's Word. We also know that these two prophets will prophecy for 1260 days, or approx 3 1/2 years. Some say that their ministry is reserved for the last three and a half years, but we will see how that this is impossible.

" And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed." (Rev 11:5) They are given extraordinay powers of self defence during their time of prophecy. Also, other powers are given to them to punish the earth with. " These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.." (Rev 11:6 )

" And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.." (Rev 11:7)
We have seen that previously no one was able to harm them due to their self defence powers, but here we have this "beast" making war, overcoming and killing them, after their testimony is over. This "beast" is none other than the long predicted Satan-posessed Anti-Christ, who is the only one to have the power to conquer these two anointed prophets. And this is the first order of business when he is released from the bottomless pit, to assassinate God's representatives.
" And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.." (Rev 12:9)
This all takes place in the middle of the "Week of Daniel" as we have seen in a previous lesson. Now it gets interesting.

"And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.." ( Rev 11:8-10 )

" Where our Lord was cruxified " was just outside Jerusalem. So apparently, this city Jerusalem, spiritually, is considered by the prophets as being "Sodom and Egypt", two abominably pagan mindsets. The people will not tolerate that the bodies of the prophets be buried for at least "three and half days", or half a week if you prefer and they will be sending gifts to one another and having a big party because these prophets have been conquered by the anti-christ. As we have already seen in the burial of Mother Theresa and Pope John 23rd; these will be placed in hermetically-sealed clear coffins to be put on display for the entire period covering the last three and a half years while the anti-christ pursues his reign of terror, The Great Tribulation, against God's children. They will be displayed as sort of "trophies" to the power and might of the anti-christ as he was the only one able to overcome them due to the supernatural powers these prophets posessed.

" And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.." ( Rev 11:11-12)

They are the first to die marking the beginning of the Great Tribulation period and also the first to "rapture" marking the return of Christ. " The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly. And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.." (Rev 11:14-15)

The second woe is past, the third comes quickly afterwards. The third is when the seventh trumpet sounds and we are called to be with the Lord forever." For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.." (1Thes 4:16-17) The "dead in Christ" (the prophets ect...) rise first and then the rest of us.

Who are these prophets ? Nearly every denominational organisation have laid claim to this "honour", but we know that they will be whomever the Lord chooses. " For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.." ( Ps 75:6-7) " ...before honour is humility.." (Pro 15:33)
Whoever they are, they will have a very special ministry to accomplish and will have to be strong in the Word in order to do what they will be called to do, not compromised by the world or it's values.
